2003 Seyval Blanc
A magnificent, dry white wine with a clean taste, lovely overtones and
a solid finish. With aging it acquires complexity and a most pleasant
bouquet. Chardonnay drinkers are impressed by its refreshing difference.
2003 Reserve Red
Made from Foch, de Chaunac and
Chancellor grown here.
This blend demonstrates how well a
blend can taste compared to a single variety.
2004 Sweet Red
A sweet red wine for those who like sweet wine. It was made from a
blend of our Foch, de Chaunac and Chancellor. Some people like it as a
dessert wine.
2004 Doc's Own
A pink and perky somewhat sweet wine similar to a California white
Zinfandel.
Peachy Keen
This slightly sweet white wine has
had delicious Peach flavors added to it.
We made in 2004 from our Seyval grown
here.

This will be the 36th year this winemaker has made Seyval Blanc. We
have long since moved away from hand crushers, press and pumps to the
best electric powered equipment we could find.
Experience has been the best teacher plus reading and consultation with
the late Philip Wagner. Early on he held my hand over the phone on
numerous occasions. Philip convinced me we should make red wine as well
as white which went in the opposite direction from my need to keep
things simple as I was still practicing psychiatry and psychoanalysis
and teaching. As usual, he was right.
After growing and making wine from 36 varieties of grapes at North
Salem Vineyard, I concluded French-American Hybrid grapes rather than
classical vinifera grew better and made better wine here. Hybridization
is a major factor in the development of agriculture. Hybrid corn,
hybrid tomatoes and Santa Gertrudis cattle are good examples. Seyval
Blanc is a 5th generation hybrid.
Foch is one of a series of hybrids created in Alsace, part of France
ceded to Germany after the war in 1870. The hybridizer named it after
Marechal Foch, demonstrating his loyalty to France. When it came to de
Chaunac, the name given it was that of a Canadian who was chief of the
Canadian experiment station.
